Oh, how quickly things evolve.
My name is Kody Smart, and this is a little about how my hobby became a family business based in Northwest Indiana. I got bit by the reptile bug much later than most, judging by other bios I've read. However, I can credit Brian Barczyk for getting me so heavily interested in snake keeping and breeding, thanks to his YouTube channel keeping me entertained on deployments overseas. What started as a couple of pet snakes has steadily grown to about a dozen breeding adults and about the same number of animals maturing. As my collection grew, I quickly got busy building a dedicated room, and the rest, as they say, is history. Smart Reptile Creations LLC spawned out of a dream to make some extra money to help my family while fostering the love for animals and the enumerable lessons that come along with their care and well-being to our beautiful children.
Here at SRC, we breed reptiles to get the kids interested in STEM activities and roll the biology dice to see what crazy incredible animals we can produce. Rather than working on numerous different projects, we focus on breeding animals that are budget conscious for those looking to get a snake at a hobby price, with some more elaborate passion projects tossed in for the fun of it.
Our primary focus at SRC is ball pythons. Still, we will be offering crested geckos, corn snakes, bull snakes, blood pythons, and a handful of years down the road, Kalatoa super dwarf reticulated pythons (breeding pair acquired from Reachout Reptiles).
